@darrendhouselewis – Yes. I just did my own research. As I mentioned in the PM, I stand corrected. However, I’m not quite sure that this tech will have too much of a life as program codes are watermarked in many broadcasts. It’ll be interesting to watch this area. For now… enjoy what’s available, especially because it’s FREE!

@BigMTBrain Completely incorrect. This has nothing to do with watermarking. Read on Quora for more info.

@darrendhouselewis – (part 3) – Read! The MAIN purpose of the tech is to discourage piracy and for broadcast monitoring. YouTube scans and tags all uploads. If EVER code owner desires that their material no longer appear… YouTube staff “bans” the code… VOILA! All media that is tagged with that code no longer displays. Broadcast monitoring assures that all broadcasts can be monitored for copyright violations and to assure that royalties are paid and fines assessed for unauthorized broadcast..

@darrendhouselewis – (part 2) – The company that makes this app is NOT the one who created the technology; they are merely interpreting a standard that was created by a broadcast industry standards association. See: digitalwatermarkingalliance [dot] org to learn the FACTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@darrendhouselewis – Ha ha ha. It’s not in the programming. It’s a simple programming overlay. Have you ever noticed that channels have their logos OVERLAID somewhere on the screen of EVERY program… even programs produced in the 20′s? It’s as simple as that. The only difference is that the data is embedded in the audio and modified every thirty minutes to reflect the ID of whatever program is airing. ONE such system would be required for any network. Cost… about the cost of ONE netbook.

Think of this as an analogy to using GPS with Foursquare. Why use GPS to check in when you already know the name of the restaurant you are eating at? CONVENIENCE and STANDARDIZATION
Why use IntoNow when checking into a tv show / movie? why not just type in the name yourself? CONVENIENCE and STANDARDIZATION

Also, does the guide on the tv tell you season and episode number? or just episode name? I’ve only seen the latter

@BigMTBrain Incorrect about the technology. This can recognize anything that has broadcast on any major US channel in the past several years. Do you think they have a deal with EVERY channel in the US to get their watermark added to every second of programming?
